Sirius XM Radio Inc. has reached an agreement with Audiovox Corp. to distribute Sirius-branded products, a move that consolidates sources of satellite radio products for retailers.
"This is yet another major milestone for our company as it further strengthens our leading position in the satellite radio category," said Patrick Lavelle, Audiovox's president and chief executive. "Despite the current economic climate, satellite radio is still growing, and we believe it will continue to be a prominent form of consumer entertainment. With this agreement, we expect our satellite radio sales to more than double next year with limited exposure. We look forward to partnering with Sirius XM in this next phase of their corporate evolution."
I really hope the Sirius XM open access requirement agreed to with the FCC as a concession of the merger really happens. I understand this particular agreement specifically pertains to Sirius-branded products, but I'd like to see an assortment of satellite radio distributors in the market place, not just one.
